HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2001-2010, AND MODEL YEAR 2012 GL1800 GOLDWING MOTORCYCLES. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE COMBINED BRAKING SYSTEM'S SECONDARY MASTER CYLINDER MAY CAUSE THE REAR BRAKE TO DRAG.

SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, REAR BRAKE WAS APPLIED LIGHTLY. REAR BRAKE LOCKED UP, SLIDING REAR TIRE , CAUSING WRECK. I WAS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL, WHERE I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH MULTIPLE BROKEN BONES (RIBS, SHOULDER, LEFT ANKLE, OTHERS). TWO WEEKS IN GREENVILLE HOSPITAL SYSTEM, REHAB, TWO MONTHS IN WHEELCHAIR. ONE YEAR LATER, I RECEIVED LETTER FROM HONDA TELLING ME THE REAR BRAKE WAS DEFECTIVE, AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. TOO LATE FOR ME, I HAD ALREADY HAD MY ACCIDENT, AND LATER SOLD THE MOTO

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 HONDA GOLDWING MOTORCYCLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED THE VEHICLE INTO A GUARDRAIL. THE CONTACT SUFFERED AN AMPUTATION OF THE LEFT LEG THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.

AT THIS POINT THE MOTORCYCLE TYPICALLY IS ALREADY ACCELERATING AND IT WAS NOT. WITHIN A SECOND IT TOOK OFF AS IF SOMETHING SUDDENLY RELEASED AND ROSE INTO A WHEELIE. THE BIKE THEN LANDED 3 T
