October 2024 (while out of state vacation): The transmission violently downshifted upon moderate acceleration such that truck lurched with a loud bang, went into limp safe mode in traffic, with no rear warning because brakes were not applied. I was able to shut the vehicle off and restart, and able to engage the transmission, though engagement remained harsh. No Check Engine Lights were illuminated. The failed component is a lifter/camshaft. Luckily I was attentive to my vehicle and noticed a ticking noise within the engine and took it to a dealer for diagnosis. An engine failure while traveling at highway speeds could be a disastrous to occupants and others around them. This appears to be a common problem with the 7.3l engine. The check engine light illuminated after i noticed the ticking noise.

20251017VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Intermittent delay in throttle response. Sometimes the delay is nonexistent or nearly imperceptible, other times the delay can be 2 seconds or more. Is very dangerous when trying to merge with flowing traffic. Occurs most often with the steering wheels turned and accelerating from stop, but has happened while driving straight at freeway speeds. Turning off traction control seems to mitigate but not entirely eliminate the issue.
