ON AUGUST 24, 2001, A FIRE SPONTANEOUSLY BEGAN UNDER THE HOOD OF MY 1991 FORD F150 PICKUP TRUCK WHILE IT WAS TURNED OFF AND PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AT NIGHT. THE FIRE CAUSED EXPENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND WOULD HAVE PROBABLY CAUGHT MY HOUSE ON FIRE HAD THE TRUCK BEEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE. I CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP (CENTROPLEX FORD IN KILLEEN, TEXAS, WHICH IS NOW AUTOMAX FORD) ABOUT FORD'S LIABILITY AND THEY SAID REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE THE FACTORY WARRANTY HAD L

AFTER TAKING VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL 96-V-076-000 RERPAIRS, BUT REMEDY DID NOT WORK, AND THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAS CRACKED, CAUSING FUMES TO ENTER INTO PASSENGER'S COMPARTMENT. DEALER NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.*AK

THEN STARTER BECAME STUCK, AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SHUT VEHICLE OFF. *AKCONSUMER HAD TURNED THE IGNITION BUT DID NOT TURN THE VEHICLE ON. CONSUEMR TOOK THE KEYS AND WENT BACK INTO THE HOUSE ONLY TO COME OUT AGAIN AND FIND THE VEHICLE ON FIRE. CONSUMER HAS SO FAR REPLACED 3 STARTERS AND 5 ALTERNATORS. *JG

WAS GOING 10MPH AND STARTED TO TURN AROUND A CORNER WHEN VEHICLE FAILED TO COMPLY. STEERING BECAME FREE WHEELING, VEHICLE KEPT STRAIGHT. PLOWED INTO A FRONT PORCH, BECAME LODGED UNDER THE PORT. PASSENGER WAS INJURED AND HOSPITALIZED. ALSO, DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES, BUT HAD EMERGENCY ROOM TREATMENTAND WAS RELEASED. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
SHOULDER HARNESS FAILED TO RESTRAIN PASSENGER AND SHE HIT HEAD ON DASH. *AK

VEHICLE HAS A 116 WHEEL BASE SHORT BED W/ DUAL GAS TANKS. FUEL LINE WHICH WAS PLASTIC AND LOCATED TOO CLOSELY TO MUFFLER, MELTED UNDER HOT CONDITIONS AND SPRAYED GAS ALL OVER HIGHWAY. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL LINE ESTZ9291AH AND COUPLING N8034341S. THIS IS COMMOM ON 1991 AND 1992 MODELS. CONSUMER STATED THAT PASSENGER WAS INJURED TRYING TO EXIT VEHICLE. *AK CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE TANK NEEDS A HEAT SHIELD TO PROTECT IT FROM MUFFLER HEAT. *SLC
VEHICLE HAS CAUGHT ON FIRE FOR THE 6TH TIME. EACH TIME IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED TO BE THE UNDER DASH OR FRONT HOOD. DEALER HAS NEVER GIVEN A REASON FOR THE PROBLEM. *AK
POSSIBLE FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE RESULTED IN FIRE TO COME UPM FROM BETWEEN THE CAB AND THE BED OF THE TRUCK. NLM
AFTER PARKING THE TRUCK, TURNING OFF THE IGNITION, AND WALKING AWAY, SOME SOUNDS WERE HEARD COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. UPON LOOKING BACK, SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE HOOD AREA. WHEN THE HOOD WAS OPENED, FIRE ERUPTED. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY FUEL OR ELECTRICAL FAILURE. RESULT WAS TOTAL LOSS OF UNDERHOOD SOFT GOODS. *AK
