TOOK MY CAR TO GET THE POWER STEERING FIXED AFTER IT STOPPED WORKING. THE REPAIR SHOP CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THE CAR'S ENGINE HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THAT THEY WERE NOT LIABLE. I RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE AND HAVE SINCE HAD TO REPAIR ALL OF THE ELECTRONICS, HOSES, HOOD, AND PAINT IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT, FLAMES ERUPTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ALERTED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THERE WAS MODERATE FIRE DAMAGE TO THE UNDER HOOD AREA. THE POLICE WERE NOT ALERTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE POWER STEERING HOSE. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 06V001000, REGARDING THE STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE,

1995 DODGE STRATUS CAUGHT ON FIRE. *TS THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE CONSUMER PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER, EXITED THE VEHICLE AND SAW SMOKE. A FEW MINUTES LATER THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. *JB
AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, WENT INTO THE HOUSE, AND A FRIEND CAME TO NOTIFY CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE PERMANENT REGISTRATION ON THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN RECEIVED. *AK

I WAS ON MY WAY TO MY JOB AND I MAY A FULL STOP ON A RED LIGHT THE ENGINE STOP SO I PROCEEDED TO CHECK THE CONTROL PANEL TO VIEW ANY ANORMAL SIGNAL. AFTERWARDS I TURNED THE IGNITION ON AND PUT THE CAR ON DRIVE, I TURNED RIGHT ON THE INTERSECTION . AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 100 FEET THE ENGINE STOPPED AGAIN AND WHEN I TRY TO TURNED IT ON THERE WAS A BIG EXPLOSION AND A BIG FLAME CAME OUT FROM THE ENGINE. INMEDIATEDLY I GOT OUT FROM THE CAR AND SOME PASSBYERS CALLED THE POLICE AND FIREMEN. UP TO
POSSIBLE BRAKE LOSS, TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THIS CAR HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGWAY SPEEDS OF 55 TO 60 MPH VEHICLE WILL AUTOMATICALLY DOWNSHIFT ON ITS OWN, REDUCING THE SPEED VERY QUICKLY. THIS HAS NEARLY RESULTED IN A DRIVER'S WHIPLASH. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK

IMPACT OF DODGE INTO A 1992 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN AT RIGHT ANGLES WAS SUFFICIENT TO KNOCK TIRE OFF THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF TH CHEVY, DEMOLISH THE FRONT END OF THE DODGE AND FRACTURE THE STERNUM OF THE DRIVER OF THE DODGE (AS HE STRUCK THE STEERING COLUMN, RESTRAINED ONLY BY THE SEAT BELT), BUT NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. *AK
MY 95 STRATUS WAS INVOLED IN A FRONT COLLISION WITH A TRUCK AT OR AROAND 40 TO 45 MILE IMPACT, AND THE BAGS DID NOT WORK. *AK

THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WIT ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, APPLIED BRAKES AND FOOT WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD. AS A RESULT, THE CONSUMER REAR-ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. THE DEFECTS DESCRIBED RELATE TO RECALL NUMBER 96V075000. *AK
