VEHICLE LEFT ROADWAY AND WENT INTO A DRAINAGE DITCH. THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY RESULTING IN THE DRIVERS DEATH. *JS
HAVE 1998 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 SHORT-BED V-6 PICKUP WITH ABS BRAKE PROBLEMS. HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THERE IS A HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM. THE MAKER IS FULLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT ONLY RECALLED 1999 AND LATER MODELS. I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY DECIDED THAT ONE, BUT I DO KNOW IT HAS TO DO WITH MONEY! IN DECEMBER OF 2005, I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE TRUCK BRAKES FAILING WITH THE ANTI-LOCK PULSING ON AND I HAD NO BRAKING TIME AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. IT IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MANY GMC

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE MAKING A SLIGHT TURN IN A CURVE, THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED MAKING A SHARPER TURN. THIS BEGAN IN SEPTEMBER 2005 AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A PROBLEM. THIS PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, DOWN A MOUNTAIN, THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HIT A ROCK WALL AND THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL. DT: WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, AN ODOR OF SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONSUMER STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. WHEN THE DRIVER RETURNED TO THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE, IT WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. *NM THE FIRE DEPT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE.

DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE LEFT SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE TAILGATE CABLES FAILED TWICE. *TC

CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM CAUSED A FIRE ON DRIVER'S DOOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AT THE TIME OF THIS CALL. *AK *PH

1998 SILVERADO EXT. CAB - THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING ALL AFTERNOON OF 10/24 AND ALL NIGHT. FRIDAY MORNING AT ABOUT 6:15 I HEARD A HORN BLOWING. I WENT OUTSIDE TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND THE INTERIOR OF MY TRUCK ON FIRE. I HAVE PICTURES (IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM). IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE DASH TO LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THAT SECTION OF THE DASH WAS MELTED BEYOND RECOGNITION. THE WINDSHIELD BLEW IN THE LEFT HAND CORNER AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW ALSO BLEW.
THE DASHBOARD IN THE TRUCK CAUGHT ON FIRE. WE WERE ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE BEFORE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE WAS DONE. THE GM DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS THE WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE HOOD. WE REPORTED THIS TO GM, AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD NO OTHER REPORTS AND WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. I LOOKED ON THE NHTSA SITE AND FOUND 52 PAGES OF OTHER CHEVROLET TRUCKS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS FROM 1996 TO 2002. I BELIEVE SOMEONE COULD GET
THE SPARE TIRE WINCH CABLE BROKE CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BEHIND THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A COMMON OCCURECE WITH MANY MAKES AND MODELS OF VEHICLES. THOUGH THIS PROBLEM MAY NOT BE REPORTED OFTEN, I THINK IT IS A VERY COMMON INCIDENT THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED.*AK

VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED AT 40MPH. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER'S SEATBACK COLLAPSED, RESULTING IN INJURY TO DRIVER.*AK
I HAVE TRIED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO CONTACT CHEVROLET TO GET ATTENTION BROUGHT TO THE ISSUE. I KEEP BEING TOLD THEY ARE INVESTIGATING THE PROBLEM, BUT STILL NO WORD FROM THEM. EVERYTIME THEY SAY THEY WILL GET BACK TO ME, NO ONE EVER DOES. THE BRAKES LOCK UP WHEN IT IS WET OUTSIDE SOMETIMES THEY DON'T WORK AT ALL, AND SOMETIMES THEY WORK GREAT. I WOULD JUST LIKE FOR MY BRAKES TO BE FIXED. WE HAVE CONSULTED 2 AUTHORIZED CHEVROLET DEALERS AND THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I AM BACK INTO A C
