DAMAGE WAS TO THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE. IT WAS PUSHED IN SO BAD THAT THE FRAME IN FRONT WAS DAMAGED AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOTALED . DRIVER'S AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. *AK

20010621CrashTIRES:TEMPORARY/EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE

STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WITH MY PICK UP. MY WIFE FOLLOWING BEHIND ME IN HER GMC JIMMY. AFTER CHECKING FOR TRAFFIC, I PROCEEDED AND MY WIFE APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION. AT THIS TIME, I HEARD SOMETHING IN THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. THE SPARE TIRE FELL FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK AND LANDED IN THE ROAD. AS I LOOKED THROUGH MY REAR VIEW MIRROR, MY WIFE PROCEEDED AND RAN OVER THE TIRE, WHICH CAUSED HER VEHICLE TO GO AIR-BORNE. SHE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. AFTER CHECKING THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT,

CONSUMER WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY & UNDER THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT STARTED SMOKING. A/C WAS ON & NO LONGER WAS BLOWING AIR. CONSUMER PULLED OVER & BURNED HIS ARM TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE . MANUFACTURER SAYS THEY WILL HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT TO LOOK AT IT. INVESTIGATOR SAID THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR FOR THE A/C WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. GM IS NOT PROVIDING FURTHER HELP. *AK *ML

CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT APPROXMATELY 50 MPH WHEN HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE SIDE HEAD-ON. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO SUSTAIN SEVERE WHIPLASH AND OTHER INJURIES. SEATBELTS WERE WORN AT THE TIME. *AK
